About the Author — Bob Wahl

Bob Wahl is a Saskatchewan author and historian whose work is rooted in the prairie landscapes and communities that shaped his life. A graduate of the one‑room School No. 99 near Clark’s Crossing, Bob has devoted much of his writing to preserving the stories, photographs, and lived experiences of the pioneers who settled along the South Saskatchewan River.

He is the author of several books spanning memoir, history, and personal reflection, including Contending with Horses, Riding the Powerful Winds of Life, Bob – The Prairie Son, and Love Never Ends – A Decade of Dementia. His historical work, Pioneers on the River: The Story of School No. 99, offers a richly detailed portrait of the school, the river, and the resilient community that grew around them. He is currently writing a comprehensive history of the Clark’s Crossing area, continuing his lifelong commitment to documenting the heritage of the region.

Bob’s writing is known for its clarity, emotional resonance, and deep respect for the ordinary families whose courage and neighbourliness shaped rural Saskatchewan. His work blends meticulous research with the storytelling instincts of someone who has lived the history he records.

Bob’s first wife, Beverley, was his partner in life and in writing for more than fifty years until her passing in 2016. He has since remarried and now shares his life with Anne, a wonderful companion who supports and encourages his ongoing work.
